Azimut Yachts, part of Italy’s Azimut/Benetti Group of yacht manufacturers, is a leading builder of luxury yachts from 11.8 metres to more than 36 metres in length. Azimut is the largest yacht manufacturer by volume listed in the Boat International Media Global Order Book, a position it has enjoyed for a number of years.
Azimut Srl got its start in 1969 when Paolo Vitelli, as a college student, started a sailing yacht chartering business in Turin, Italy. During the 1970s, Vitelli gradually moved the company into boat manufacturing. In 1970, Azimut entered a joint venture with Ameriglass to design the AZ 43’ Bali, a 13-metre, mass-produced fibreglass leisure boat that quickly gained popularity, securing Azimut’s place as an international manufacturer of production yachts.
Over the years, Azimut has maintained market leadership through continuous innovation. A striking example is Azimut’s use of large hull windows to connect guests aboard its yachts to the sea outside. Its yacht model series feature progressive, contemporary styling and aggressive performance. Azimut motor yachts also are known for their elegant modern interiors.
In 2013, sister yacht brand Atlantis was merged into Azimut Yachts, putting five luxury yacht series together under the Azimut marque: Flybridge, S, Magellano, Atlantis, and the Azimut Grande superyacht collection.
One of the most innovative models, the Azimut 86S yacht made its world debut in 2004. As with many Azimut yachts, the 86S features an exterior design by Stefano Righini and an interior by Azimut’s in-house design team in collaboration with Carlo Galeazzi. The yacht’s construction incorporates carbon fibre and Kevlar composite materials for a high strength-to-weight ratio, and speeds in excess of 42 knots.
The current queen of the Azimut Grande superyacht collection is the Azimut yachts 35.5-metre 120SL, introduced in 2012. Designed by Righini, Galeazzi and Azimut, this sleek flybridge superyacht has triple engines with a combined total of more than 7,000 horsepower. The newest model in the Azimut Grande line, the 95 RPH debuted in 2014 with a new, raised pilothouse configuration drawn by Stefano Righini.
Known for its composite yacht construction expertise, Azimut Yachts is based in Avigliana, Italy, and operates additional manufacturing facilities in Viareggio, Italy, and Itajai, Brazil. The shipyard also operates service centres serving customers around the world.
