Broward Marine Yachts

Now under new management, longtime American luxury yacht builder Broward Shipyard is making the most of its location in U.S. yachting mecca Fort Lauderdale.

History of Broward Marine Yachts

In 1948, Michigan boat technician Frank Denison purchased Fort Lauderdale shipyard Dooley’s Dry Dock while visiting the area on his honeymoon. Frank and Gertrude Denison renamed the shipyard Broward Marine and started a service and repair business at the facility. In 1953, Broward launched its first custom motor yacht, Stormy III, designed by noted naval architect John Wells. Five years later, Broward built the 25-metre luxury yacht Jonathan III for Jim Beam Distilleries owner Harry Blum.

During the Korean War years, Broward successfully built minesweeper vessels under a NATO contract. During the latter part of the 20th century, however, Broward Marine’s primary focus shifted back to custom luxury yacht. To date, the shipyard has launched more than 300 Broward yachts.

The shipyard has changed hands and names over the years. In 2009, Bruce and Chris Moore took ownership, incorporating Broward Shipyard, Inc. The new company offers construction of custom luxury yachts from 18 to 50 metres.

Notable Broward Marine Superyachts

In 2007, Broward launched the 38-metre superyacht Coco Loco (now called Viva Mas), featuring contemporary exterior styling and interior design by Evan K. Marshall. The yacht designer has maintained a close relationship with Broward Shipyard.

Specialisations

In addition to custom yacht construction in aluminium and steel, Broward Shipyard offers a full suite of yacht refit, repair and maintenance services.
