Vickers Studio
With more than 50 projects now on the water—encompassing interior and exterior new builds and refits of yachts up to 90 metres—Vickers Studio has established a reputation for intelligent layouts, refined design sensibility, and confident proportions.
Founded and creatively led by John Vickers, the studio draws on more than 25 years of experience designing some of the world’s most respected yachts. Throughout his career, John has developed a distinctive visual language grounded in timeless design principles, material integrity, natural light, carefully balanced colour, and a rigorous attention to detail and proportion
Raised by the sea on Hayling Island, John’s path into yacht design was both natural and inevitable. He holds a degree in Product Design and is also a qualified Yacht Master, a combination that underpins his practical understanding of life at sea and the functional demands placed on yachts of all sizes.
John began his career at Redman Whiteley Dixon (RWD), where he developed his skills in drafting, design, and project management across both exterior and interior disciplines. During this time, he contributed to industry-defining projects including the 55.5-metre Feadship M.Y. Twizzle and the 155-metre Lürssen M.Y. Al Said. He later established the Luxury Yacht Department at property designers Candy & Candy, where the 62-metre M.Y. Candyscape II went on to win the World Superyacht Award for Best Motor Yacht, with special commendation for interior design.
Following this, John spent six years as a Senior Designer at Terence Disdale Design, working on some of the world’s most prestigious interior and exterior yacht projects, as well as commissions for private aviation and interior architecture. He then returned to RWD as a director before founding Vickers Studio in January 2015.
The studio’s first project was a 94-foot Mulder yacht, marking the beginning of a long-standing relationship with both the owner—now a trusted friend and repeat client—and Mulder Yachts. Today, Vickers Studio is developing its tenth 36-metre yacht in Mulder’s award-winning 300 GT range. This early success set the tone for the studio’s trajectory: consistently delivering award-winning designs in one of the most competitive yacht size categories, strengthening shipyard prestige while rewarding owners’ trust.
More notably is the success of the Studio’s design, winning Awards for the following
- 36m Delta One – World Superyacht Award winner
- 36m Calypso – World Superyacht Award winner
- 56m Blue II – World Superyacht Award winner
More recently, Vickers Studio undertook a comprehensive 10-month refit of MY Solace at Pendennis Shipyard. For John, the project marked a meaningful return to her, having first worked on the yacht more than 20 years ago. Supported by a core team of eight, John continues to secure new commissions from leading clients and shipyards worldwide. With a strong pipeline of new builds and a consistent seasonal refit program, the studio looks forward with confidence to delivering fantastic projects as it enters its second decade.
