Ares Yachts' flagship sailing yacht Simena has reached the final outfitting stage, with delivery slated for December 2024.
Simena has been built in carbon fibre and steel with lines owed to Taka Yacht Design. Inspired by a "gentler age of sail", the 62-metre ketch is loosely modelled after a clipper ship – seen best in the bow, with its full-rigged bowsprit and trail board. "One can also find some resemblances with the early steam yachts, sharing lovely, classic sheer lines," explained Ares Yachts' projects manager Piraye Sahinkaya Orhun.
Simena's Design Unlimited interiors will incorporate woven metals, leathers, stones and soft furnishings to create a "mix of contemporary and classic [...] with hints of glamour." Accommodation is for up to 12 guests and nine crew, including a forward main deck master cabin. While full interior details are yet to be disclosed, the deckhouse saloon has been designed for formal dining and lounging.
On deck, the covered cockpit will be arranged with a Jacuzzi and sunpads, while the flybridge will also provide shade alongside a more private foredeck lounge.
Powered by 220kW electric motors (that can be supplemented by an 882kW diesel engine), Simena is expected to reach a top speed of 15 knots and achieve silent operations at up to six knots.
She will also be equipped with an electronic remote-control system for propulsion, with controllable pitch propellers – "very user friendly, highly accurate, advanced and flexible with six modes," added Orhun.
Also currently under construction at Ares Yachts is the 50-metre Spitfire and 54-metre explorer yacht, Project Atlas. The shipyard is also developing a 65 to 85-metre range with Lateral Naval Architects.
