The worst yacht fires and collisions of 2025

While the severity of this year's events pale in comparison to 2024 – which saw Bayesian's tragic sinking and the fraught legal dealings surrounding Loon's tender crash – 2025 still had its fair share of fires, collisions and other unfortunate incidents. The most-read stories involved a shocking marina fire in Marseilles and the grounding of Sanlorenzo's flagship, while a newly built superyacht sank mere minutes after her official launch.

1. 24m Medyılmaz Shipyard yacht Dolce Vento sinks immediately after launch

What happened?

The 23.9-metre Medyılmaz motor yacht Dolce Vento capsized immediately after launch. According to local reports, an alleged stabilisation issue caused the yacht to sink to a depth of seven metres shortly after entering the water.

2. Tecnomar Lamborghini 63 sport yacht sinks in Miami Beach

What happened?

The Tecnomar Lamborghini 63 sport yacht named TNT sunk off the coast of Miami Beach, Florida. The incident occurred near Monument Island, an artificial landmark frequented by tourists.

3. Fire badly damages 41m superyacht Sea Lady II in St Tropez

What happened?

The 41.3-metre W.A. Souter & Son superyacht Sea Lady II was badly damaged in a fire while docked in St Tropez, causing her to partially sink. Data from BOATPro records Sea Lady II entering the port at 6.00pm, with the fire breaking out approximately two hours later.

4. 43m Custom Line motor yacht Lady Dia runs aground in France

What happened?

The 42.6-metre Custom Line motor yacht Lady Dia ran aground near Bonifacio Marina in Corsica, France. According to local reports, she is believed to have lost control near the port entrance, resulting in a bow-first collision with a nearby rockface.

5. 29m Astondoa motor yacht Da Vinci badly damaged by fire in Formentera

What happened?

The 28.9-metre Astondoa motor yacht Da Vinci caught fire off the coast of Formentera, Spain. The yacht was carrying four passengers, two crew members and the captain at the time.

6. Fire destroys 30m Azimut yacht Ramonda in Montenegro

What happened?

The 29.6-metre Azimut yacht Ramonda was destroyed in a fire while anchored in Portonovi, a resort marina in Montenegro. The blaze was extinguished by firefighters after several hours.

7. Marina fire damages three yachts in Marseilles, France

What happened?

Three yachts were badly damaged following a fire in Port de la Lave, in the 16th arrondissement of Marseilles, France. Flames first broke out on board the 26.9-metre Leopard yacht Naisca IV before spreading to two other vessels.

8. 39m Mangusta yacht Mirage runs aground in Fort Lauderdale

What happened?

The 39.2-metre Mangusta motor yacht Mirage ran aground while departing Bahia Mar Yachting Center in Fort Lauderdale. According to eyewitnesses, the yacht became "completely beached" on the sandbar and quickly began to list on her starboard side.

9. 27m Leopard motor yacht Principessa Matera destroyed by fire in Capo Noli

What happened?

The 26.9-metre Leopard motor yacht Principessa Matera was burnt down to the waterline following a fire off the coast of Capo Noli in Italy. Recovery operations involved the intervention of two motorboats from Genoa and Savona and aerial reconnaissance using a Drago helicopter.

10. 64m Sanlorenzo superyacht Attila runs aground in Formentera

What happened?

The 64.3-metre Sanlorenzo superyacht Attila ran aground off the coast of Es Pujols in Formentera, Spain. Eyewitnesses claimed the yacht entered shallow waters and was beached at approximately 2.30pm, though the incident did not result in any pollution or environmental damage.
