A 29-metre (LOA including bowsprit) gulet yacht has been destroyed following a fire in Göcek, Turkey.
The yacht was anchored in Hammam Bay, a cove in the island area of Fethiye, when the blaze broke out at approximately 5.30am on 20 July. Speaking to BOAT International, a representative from local media platform Göcek Rehberi stated that the fire began after an explosion, which is thought to have originated from the yacht's onboard batteries.
The Turkish Coast Guard and local port authority response units attended the scene. According to local reports, the fire was extinguished approximately two hours after the blaze broke out, though the yacht had suffered extensive damage and sank thereafter.
It is understood that there were no guests on board at the time of the incident. The yacht's crew were evacuated with no reported injuries.
Following the blaze, the affected area has been cleaned by TÜÇA, DERİA and MAPA Şamandıra as part of an environmental response by the local government.
The yacht is believed to be the gulet yacht Princess Alize, delivered and designed throughout by Turkish shipyard Bozburun.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is currently underway.
