Mallorca-based yacht design studio BYD Group has teamed up with Spanish yard Atollvic Shipyard on a 50 metre superyacht concept.
Dubbed the BYD 50, the yacht features a full hybrid propulsion system with four diesel generators and two fuel cells with a complete energy management system. This set up allows the yacht to operate in four different modes - one with diesel, one fully electric, one with hydrogen or with the combination of any of the above.
Speaking about the BYD 50, BYD Group’s principal architect Tià Simó said: “The efficiency of the yacht is increased dramatically. With this design, we propose to reduce emissions.”
Amenities abound on the project, including a large beach club that can fit an 8.3 metre tender, with two side-folding platforms increasing socialising space.
The main deck boasts a large sun bathing alongside comfortable seating and an al fresco dining table for up to 12 guest. Aft, a large pool converts into a helipad when covered and is situated adjacent to additional sun pads and loungers.
Speaking about the design, Simó said: “We optimised the aerodynamics to reduce air drag and improve the overall efficiency of the yacht. She has a contained beam of 9.1 metres, in order to keep the boat slender.”
The flybridge hosts a large bar and a Jacuzzi, while ample seating is covered by a large hardtop that sports solar panels.
A spacious master is located on the main deck and is equipped with a dressing room and a his and hers double bathroom. The guest areas consist of four generous cabins on the lower deck, including a VIP suite.
