coquine![design] presents 49m Coba explorer yacht concept

Design studio coquine![design] has presented a new 49 metre explorer yacht concept called Coba. Conceived as a “head-turner” without being an “attention-grabber”, the concept places heavy emphasis on underwater exploration balanced by family-friendly amenities, according to Christian Leyk, partner at coquine![design].

The superyacht would sit below the 500 GT mark and could be fitted with a range of different propulsion packages. Hybrid would be “natural” choice, according to Leyk, but hydrogen is also a possibility. Meanwhile, the draft would be a maximum of three metres and “extra plating would allow the yacht to be ice-classed if required”.

“Extra focus will be put on sea-worthiness, comfort, a good but not exaggerated stability and a good economy,” said Leyk. “[Coba has been designed for] a family of maybe four or five to travel around the world, occasionally inviting just a few good friends. For that reason, the yacht should be sufficiently simple and reliable and can be operated with a small crew only.”

The ideal buyer for this yacht would be someone who liked to connect with nature and enjoy the adventure, he added.

"So, it’s fairly down to earth, no fancy spa or impressive saloons. Instead, you’ll have the observation deck where you can relax and just watch the world passing by," he continued.

The concept boasts a number of exciting features, including an owner’s cabin with fold-out balconies and an onboard submarine. A nine metre multi-purpose tender is also on hand, and there will be enough storage for jet-skis or a car. A second crew tender is stored on the foredeck.

Meanwhile, a high-spec multi-purpose crane is located under the aft deck for easy launch and recovery. Once clear, the aft deck space functions as a large activity deck that can be used as an entertainment space.

The project is currently speculative, but “any interested owner could see the project started in no time and turn it into the home away from home for himself and his family,” according to Leyk.
