Almyra II, Nommo and Barong D among UBS Race Day winners

Competing on two separate courses of 22.76 and 26.95 nautical miles respectively, the fleet enjoyed a fresh northerly breeze that produced close racing across all five classes.

In Apollo, Almyra II secured victory on corrected time after completing the course in an elapsed time of 2 hours, 6 minutes and 48 seconds. Despite finishing just over two minutes slower on the water, the 49.8-metre Perseus pushed the defending yacht hard before ultimately finishing 10 minutes and 51 seconds behind on corrected time. Fivea completed the podium.

The Cyclades class saw Nommo emerge victorious after a strong performance over the 22.76-nautical-mile course. Nostromo crossed the finish line more than 11 minutes earlier in elapsed time, but Nommo's corrected-time advantage proved decisive, securing victory by 14 minutes and 25 seconds. Tawera rounded out the podium positions.

One of the closest contests of the day unfolded in the Meltemi division. Barong D claimed top honours after edging Mari-Cha III by just 1 minute and 28 seconds on corrected time, while Galma finished less than two minutes further back. The result underlined the intensely competitive nature of the Wally-heavy class, where small gains around mark roundings and manoeuvres proved critical.

In Nireas, the Vitters-built La Belle delivered a commanding performance to take victory over Windrose of Amsterdam, while Ocean Pure 2 was recorded as DNS.

The Skyphian class produced another tight battle, with Aiolos claiming the class win ahead of Sentinel and Cool Turabi. Just over three minutes separated the top four yachts on corrected time, highlighting how closely matched the fleet remained despite the longer course and stronger conditions.

With daily honours decided, attention now turns to this evening's final awards ceremony, where the overall Head of the Fleet trophy will be presented following three days of racing around Antiparos and the surrounding Cycladic islands.

Tight battles emerge across the classes

As the fleet settled into the race, several close contests began to develop.

In the Apollo class, Almyra II initially established an advantage over Fivea and Perseus, while Nommo and Nostromo traded blows in the Cyclades division. The Meltemi class delivered some of the closest racing on the water, with Galma, Mari-Cha III and Wally B separated by little more than a minute at one stage of the race.

Elsewhere, La Belle and Windrose of Amsterdam remained locked in a closely fought duel in Nireas, while the Skyphian fleet continued to compress and expand as boats encountered different wind strengths across the racecourse.

Strong breeze delivers the most competitive racing of the week

After two days dominated by light and unpredictable conditions, the Cyclades Cup fleet finally enjoyed a more established breeze for today's racing, with winds building into the low-to-mid teens across much of the course.

Race management sent the fleet around longer courses than those used earlier in the regatta, creating a more tactical test that rewarded smart positioning as well as outright boat speed. With multiple mark roundings and changing angles throughout the day, crews were kept busy with sail changes and manoeuvres as they threaded their way between the islands.

The stronger conditions produced some of the closest racing seen so far this week, particularly in the Meltemi class, where positions changed repeatedly throughout the afternoon as crews hunted for pressure and favourable shifts.
