Racing finally gets under way after morning postponement

After a delayed start while organisers waited for the sea breeze to establish itself, the fleet finally got under way shortly after 1pm local time for the second day of racing at the Cyclades Cup. With lighter conditions forecast than originally hoped, race officials opted for a shorter course than planned, allowing competitors to make the most of the available breeze while still delivering a tactical contest around the islands surrounding Antiparos.

Despite concerns following yesterday's abandoned race, conditions proved more favourable than expected, with around 10 knots of wind greeting the fleet at the start.

Race start postponed as organisers await sea breeze

Day two of the Cyclades Cup has begun with a postponement on shore as race officials monitor light conditions across the course area. Organisers are currently targeting a midday start, with a further delay to 1.00pm possible if the anticipated sea breeze takes longer to establish itself.

Despite yesterday's abandoned race, race director Stratis Andreadis said there is confidence that conditions will improve later in the day: "We are currently under postponement, waiting for the sea breeze to fill in. It's looking pretty good at the moment and we're targeting a 12 o'clock start if possible, otherwise a 1 o'clock start, and hoping to have one of those beautiful, spectacular days," he told BOAT International after this morning's captains' briefing.

Andreadis also reflected on one of the standout moments from the opening day, when the fleet briefly enjoyed ideal sailing conditions before the wind faded. He said: "Yesterday was a difficult day, but we had some of the most memorable images. We had a beautiful reach of 20 boats sailing in parallel towards the mark – one of the most beautiful scenes I've ever seen."

For now, owners, captains and crew remain on standby as they await a final decision from the race committee.

This evening's welcome party has brought together owners, crew, sponsors and guests overlooking the Aegean. Hosted at a cliffside venue above Antiparos, the event marks the official social opening of Cyclades Cup 2026.
