26m Benetti classic Mi Amor enters refit at FDC Yachts

15 January 2024 • Written by Dea Jusufi

Turkish shipyard FDC Yachts has announced it has four yachts currently undertaking refits at its Bodrum facility, including the 25.6-metre Benetti classic Mi Amor (ex. Electa). She is joined by the 36.6-metre Jura II, 25.7-metre Panta Rhei and 19-metre Whimbrel.

Built in 1976, Mi Amor is scheduled for relaunch in May 2024.

"Refitting a classic Benetti like Mi Amor presents a unique set of challenges," explained a spokesperson for the shipyard. "[Our] team of skilled craftsmen and engineers approach each step with meticulous care, honouring the yacht's original character while seamlessly integrating modern advancements."

Comprehensive works include replacing the saloon windows with "modern alternatives" for increased natural light, a complete Awlgrip paint job and refinishing of all exterior wood elements. The forward deck will see steel and wooden cap rail renewals, while the main deck will have a Burmese teak refresh and renewed deck caulking. Sandblasting of the bottom hull will also ensure "a pristine underwater profile" for Mi Amor. On the technical side, the yacht's piping systems will be upgraded.

FDC Yachts will also be responsible for converting Jura II into a commercially certified vessel, opening up "charter opportunities" for the classic Hall Russell. Work on Panta Rhei will include a new interior styled by Diana Yacht Design, while Whimbrel will receive a fresh facade and a brand-new Bimini with integrated solar panels, among other enhancements.

This follows the shipyard's recent collaboration with Red Yacht Design on Project Fiducia 86, a Gentleman-style yacht due for delivery in 2025.
