Permare gives Amer 94 series Volvo engine upgrade

Italian yard Permare has announced that its Amer 94 series of motor yachts will now be offered with a more efficient twin 1,000hp Volvo Penta D13-IPS 1350 engine option.

The new pod-drive unit, which was introduced at last month’s Cannes Yachting Festival, further bolsters the performance credentials and fuel efficiency of this 28.65 metre range of flybridge yachts.

The Amer 94 features a 6.3 metre beam

Barbara Amerio, owner of Amer Yachts, commented: “The new Amer 94 is born from a continuous desire to challenge ourselves. We want to break the 3.5 litre-per-mile threshold of fuel consumption we have set in the past at a slow cruising speed. We want to build a boat that offers a great deal of choice in allowing customers to navigate for longer periods at low revs.”

Estimated consumption figures for the Amer 94 with twin IPS 1350 installed include 15 litres per mile at its maximum speed of 27 knots and 14 litres per mile at a cruising speed of 23 knots.

When trimmed back to nine knots, this Massimo Verme-designed yacht will be able to cruise from Sanremo to Venice (a distance of more than 1,600 nautical miles) without needing to refuel its 5,000 litre tank.

Other key features of this system include joystick control for more precise manoeuvring and a dynamic positioning system, which allows the yacht to stay in a given spot without dropping anchor — ideal for superyacht owners who wish to visit environmentally sensitive areas.

Despite this new option, Permare is still keen to point out that its more powerful triple IPS 900 set-up is available to order. Hull number three in the series, Drifter was launched earlier this year and used this engine set-up to achieve a top speed of 29 knots on her sea trials.
