SES Yachts launches 1900s-styled superyacht Far Niente

11 April 2024 • Written by Dea Jusufi

SES Yachts has launched the 32.7-metre Far Niente from its facility in Istanbul, Turkey.

Her round-bilged hull and classic lines are inspired by the "Dutch herring luggers of the early 1900s". Naval architecture, exterior and interior design are all owed to Hoek Design Naval Architects, who applied a similar design philosophy to Turquoise Yachts' 56-metre, steamship-style Blue II.

"Once again we have combined the timeless and elegant good looks of a classic motor yacht design with a fully optimised, hi-tech underwater body shape, using all the modern design programming we now have at our disposal," said designer Andre Hoek.

Far Niente's fuel-efficient hull design is the result of "extensive optimisation" using Hoek Design's computational fluid dynamics programs (CFD), which was also applied on the yacht's single propeller. Her wooden superstructure, varnished teak finishing and teak decks were produced "by SES Yachts' experienced carpenters", according to the shipyard.

Accommodation is across five cabins, with three additional cabins allocated for crew. Interiors are largely contemporary, combining grey washed oak and white panelling with more traditional deck heads and timber beams.

On deck highlights include a television lounge that leads to a covered sundeck with dining facilities. She is capable of storing two tenders in her foredeck, which are launched and retrieved using a retractable crane.

Far Niente has a range of 3,750 nautical miles and a maximum speed of 11 knots. She is fitted with Sleipner stabilisers for added comfort and bow and stern thrusters for manoeuvrability.

SES Yachts is soon scheduled to launch the 40-metre sailing Linnea Aurora and the 26-metre Dark Sky.

Last year, Royal Hakvoort announced that construction had begun on 45-metre hybrid superyacht in collaboration with Hoek Design.
