Charter yacht of the week: 34m Akiko on her first Mediterranean season

10 April 2026 • Written by Georgia Boscawen

Each week, we choose one of the world's finest superyachts for charter. This week, we take a closer look at Akiko, which is heading over to the Mediterranean for the first time, where she will be available for charter this season. Built in 2007 by Alloy Yachts in New Zealand, Akiko is a first-class pocket explorer and even scooped up a World Superyacht Award in 2008.

Field-Notes

Why charter Akiko

Akiko, the 34.2-metre explorer yacht, was built in New Zealand in 2007 by Allow Yachts and, for the first time, is available for charter in the Med this season. The yacht for charter received multiple accolades at the 2008 World Superyacht Awards, underscoring her exceptional design and expedition credentials. Accommodation on board is for up to 12 guests across five well-appointed cabins, including a full-beam master suite and a large VIP cabin.

Akiko's generous beam of 7.7 metres allows for a huge amount of space for a vessel of her size. She is also a great choice for keen anglers thanks to large coolers and bait tanks.

Field-Notes

Following a recent 2023 refit, Akiko now stands in immaculate condition. The work included a hull extension, a complete interior overhaul, and new paintwork, ensuring she feels as fresh as ever. The result is a fresh and light interior with pale woods and taupe and grey furnishings.

Interior mood

As guests step into the interior, the first port of call is the main saloon, which features a comfortable L-shaped sofa, perfect for relaxation or socialising. Adjacent, there is a secondary saloon, which provides an additional space for entertainment or a quiet moment with a book.

Accommodation on board is for up to 12 guests across five flexible cabins. This includes the owner’s suite, which spans the full beam of the bridge deck and provides a generous space for relaxation. There is also a large VIP cabin on the main deck forward, which has large windows and an en suite bathroom with a bath.

The remaining guest cabins lie on the lower deck and can be arranged to accommodate more guests. Tekla fabrics and towels fill the interior, while neutral tones give the yacht an effortless cool feel.

Out on deck

Like all great explorers, Akiko has a versatile and well-designed deck space. The main dining area is positioned on the aft main deck, which is also surrounded by additional seating and lounge areas. The space has a removable canopy, should guests wish to escape from the Mediterranean rays.
