Charter yacht of the week: 60m Golden Yachts motor yacht O'Madeleine

Each week we select one of the world's finest superyachts for charter. This week BOAT takes a closer look at 60-metre O'Madeleine, the smallest charter yacht to emerge from the Golden Yachts facility in Perama near the port of Piraeus. The 60-metre superyacht was designed by an all-Italian team, with Massari Design curating the interiors and Studio Vafiadis for the exterior, guest suites, and the bridge. Her interiors were developed "in close collaboration with the owner", featuring soft, sculptural furniture and leather ceiling vaults.

Why charter O'Madeleine?

The idea behind O'Madeleine was to condense 30 years of charter experience into this 60-metre superyacht. The result is three core pillars of wellness, freedom and versatility. She is the first yacht on a new hull platform developed by Golden Yachts in co-operation with a Greek naval architecture firm with which they have worked for years. Like many yachts before, her exterior design is by Studio Vafiadis, another long-time collaborator.

Designed to be balanced with a perfectly proportioned profile, the yacht for charter has ample decks, easy water access and flexible layouts.

Inside, O'Madeleine has a Nordic feel. Guests will enter the main saloon from the spacious aft deck into a space filled with textures, natural oak and cured stones. Elsewhere on board, there are shagreen details, straw details, classical fabrics and silk. The finish is immensely luxurious, welcoming and bright. This palette repeats across the well-lit common areas and all seven guest cabins.

Interior mood

The main saloon has full-height glazing to draw the sea inside the open space, which also has particularly high ceilings. There is a large dining table in the main saloon too, which rests on a single leg beneath a surface of backlit agates, cut and joined with resin by an Italian artisan. Oak has been chosen as the prevailing wood, with the light shade complemented by bright colours, particularly in the cabins.

There are three main social areas on board, including the main saloon, the beach club with its spa, Hammam, bar and lounge space and the flydeck veranda. There is an additional dining area on the upper deck, served by an al fresco galley.

The accommodation on board features four guest cabins on the lower deck and a VIP cabin on the upper deck. The owner's suite is on the main deck, featuring a large walk-in closet and marble detailing. The design combines a private lounge and workspace with panoramic glazing, while lacquer, mother-of-pearl inlays and Calacatta Viola marble feature in the expansive shower.

The decks are connected by a lift which is wrapped with a staircase with cantilevered steps. Almost all of the interior pieces were built in Italy by small specialist ateliers, coordinated through Golden Yachts’ project team, such as the marble bar on the upper deck. A key area on board is the verandah on the top deck, where the feature bar is located, a vast space under an eye-catching skylight feature that can be temperature-controlled, enclosed or left open. The space serves as a gym, a cinema or a lounge for parties.

Out on deck

Given Golden Yachts' experience with charter yachts, the decks are, quite simply, huge. The aft deck has a big, white U-shaped sofa facing aft and set before an oval coffee table. There are two additional loungers here too.

The sundeck features flush deck doors that lead into a temperature-controlled gym with en-suite facilities. Forward, there is a custom-designed jacuzzi, sunbeds, and an outdoor cinema with a projector for relaxed evenings under the stars.

Key to the yacht's design (and an important attribute in the charter market) is a beach club. Located behind the large folding transom, there is a beach club with a bar and a sofa. This precedes a well-finished garage with a dedicated massage area and ample storage for water toys.
