British Chef Tom Aikens to appear at the 2017 Barbados Food & Rum Festival

If you're going to be in Barbados for the winter season, don't miss out on some serious Bajan entertainment at the 8th annual Barbados Food and Rum Festival, which takes place November 16-19.
This year, Michelin starred British chef Tom Aikens will join a myriad of other renowned chefs at the event and will create his own Bajan-inspired menu for the three-part Gourmet Safari Dinner series, taking place on the final two nights of the festival. Guests will enjoy British classics with a Bajan twist, using local ingredients, spices and — of course — rum. On the final evening, Aikens will host an evening of fine dining at the elegant and prolific Tides restaurants on the western coast for those wanting to experience the superyacht lifestyle in Barbados.
‘Tom’s food is honest and wholehearted, constructed from feelings of nostalgia, which resonate the comfort of his brassiere approach to cooking,” said Cheryl Carter, director of Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI UK). “We are excited to host him on the island and celebrate his aromatic repertoire of cuisine. To say he lays his heart and soul into his food is an understatement in itself.”
Other guest chefs include Damian Leach, Chris De La Rosa, who will be partaking in the Gourmet Safari and the Crane Resort on November 18, Michael Harrison and Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten, who be creating succulent dishes at the Cliff restaurant, also on November 18.
During the festival, visitors can enjoy the Taste The Spirit of Polo “rum & polo match” with cocktails and canapés, the Feet in the Sand beach party with live music and food tasting and the chef’s cook-off by Oistins Bay Gardens.
If you’re there more for the rum than the food, then fear not, as a medley of mixologists will be on hand to show off their skills. The Rum Extravaganza will take place on November 17 at the vast Concorde Experience — taste a plethora of rums and cocktails, listen to live music and tuck into hors d’oeurves with friends at this colourful and flavoursome event.
