Maximus: Third-largest sailing yacht built by Vitters now listed for sale

11 June 2025 • Written by Emily Dawkins

The 59-metre Vitters sailing yacht Maximus has joined the market with Bruce Brakenhoff and Mike Orchard of Edmiston for the first time since her 2023 delivery. She is the third-largest sailing yacht ever built by the Dutch shipyard.

Commissioned for a highly experienced owner with a "focus on performance, comfort and precision", Maximus was constructed in aluminium to a design by Germán Frers - marking the second collaboration between the yard and designer. A full-displacement cruising ketch, the 59-metre has been engineered for both blue water range and comfort.

According to her brokers, she has been "built without compromise in any area", presented to the market in "immaculate, like new condition", having just completed her warranty period.

Maximus is asking €79,500,000

The interior by Spencer-Churchill Designs Ltd is warm and tasteful: characterised by an extensive use of "golden-hued" anigre wood, complemented by cream furniture, natural textiles and bronze details. Outside, however, red is the predominant colour throughout her furnishings - a nod to her eye-catching red hull, just visible above the waterline.

Accommodation is for up to 10 guests across four en suite cabins, including a full-beam owner's suite with a private deckhouse leading directly to a secluded aft cockpit - a feature her broker highlights is "seldom found on sailing yachts". Guest accommodation comprises one VIP and two convertible guest cabins (able to be configured into doubles or twins), each with an additional Pullman berth. Meanwhile, separate quarters host up to nine crew.

Large skylights and hull windows fill the living areas with natural light, including within the split-level main saloon. Here, guests will find a fully-equipped bar and informal dining space in the deckhouse, with steps leading down to a spacious lounge area complete with a grand piano, in addition to a formal dining table seating six.

Maximus' main and central cockpit is fitted with a central al fresco dining table and sofas - easily protected from the elements. Meanwhile, her elongated foredeck offers ample space for sunbathing or enjoying the vistas while underway.

The sailing yacht is equipped with a 7-metre X-Tenders diesel jet tender and a 4.2-metre Zodiac Pro 500 RIB, as well as a 5-metre Mylne sailing dinghy.

"A powerful ‘Bucket Boat’ with genuine globetrotting capability, she is essentially better than new, priced below replacement cost, and ready for immediate delivery” shared Edmiston executive director and listing broker, Bruce Brakenhoff.

The 395GT yacht for sale is powered by a 1,199 hp MAN V12 engine delivering a top speed of 13 knots and a cruising range of 3,000 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 11 knots.

She is equipped with Southern Spars rigging, Doyle sails and Harken deck equipment for a comfortable yet fast sailing experience. Notably, she placed second in Class A of the 2024 Superyacht Cup Palma.

Maximus is asking €79,500,000, currently located in Newport, Rhode Island, USA. She is not for sale to US residents while in US waters.
