Gloss Design unveils 50m hybrid superyacht concept Project Auralia

Italian studio Gloss Design has unveiled a new 50-metre superyacht concept, Project Auralia, designed to be completed in up to half the time of a conventional custom build, leveraging a proven engineering approach.

Developed around the principles of “efficiency, optimised volumes and reduced time to market,” the yacht concept draws on the studio’s cross-industry knowledge spanning yacht design and the automotive sector.

The exterior is described by designers as using “restrained and sculptural language,” with renderings showcasing clean surfaces, sleek lines, and a monochromatic grey palette.

At the core of the superyacht concept is a proven naval platform re-engineered from a hull originally developed and tested for high-performance patrol vessels. By adapting this existing, validated technical base, the project aims to reduce construction schedules by up to 50 per cent.

“With Auralia, we wanted to demonstrate how a superyacht can originate from a proven technical platform and evolve into an efficient, refined product centred on the owner’s experience,” explained designer and founder Stefano Carugno.

Despite remaining below the 500GT mark, the three-deck layout intends to maximise both interior and exterior spaces while balancing privacy, comfort and outdoor living. Accommodation is arranged for guests across four en suite doubles on the lower deck, alongside crew quarters.

The lower deck also hosts the beach club, with side-opening terraces and a wellness area with a sauna and steam room. For playtime, a garage has been included to house a 7.6-metre tender.

The main deck features a full-beam (9.2 metres) saloon, incorporating a lounge, dining and bar area. The owner's cabin sits forward, complete with a private office, dressing room and small spa. Outside, a pool, sunpads and a bar are available.

Elsewhere, the sundeck offers al fresco dining, lounge seating for relaxation, a Jacuzzi and an additional bar.

Power is delivered by a hybrid propulsion package that combines twin 2,000hp V12 diesel engines with four generators, two electric units and a 470kWh battery bank. The technology included is said to enhance “comfort, autonomy and on-board quality of life". The system is also designed to handle hotel loads and enable silent, zero-emission coastal cruising with a projected cruising speed of 12 knots.
