The third unit in Damen Yachting's YS53 series is now embarking on sea trials ahead of her delivery this summer. The support yacht was last sighted this March, when she hit the water for the first time at the Dutch yard's facilities in Antalya, Turkey.
The 55.3-metre model has durability, reliability and sailing characteristics at the forefront of its design, characterised by a wave-slicing axe bow, forward-raking windows for improved visibility and pronounced spray rails to protect sensitive equipment from saltwater. Key specs include an internal volume that sits just under 500GT and a top speed of 19 knots.
Exterior spaces are versatile and functional, including the large aft platform that can be configured as an events space, a place for "making scientific discoveries" or capacious storage, installed with a 15-tonne crane for launching tenders and toys. A reinforced deck also allows for touch-and-go helicopter operations.
"We are delighted that this YS53 has started the sea trial phase of her build," said project manager Pim Oostra. "She is the third from this all-new YS53 design and is a great example of our Yacht Supports which are built for purpose and non-stop reliability."
The other two units in the YS53 series are Bad Company Support – owned by legendary sportfisherman Anthony Hsieh – and Five Oceans, which recently sold at a last known asking price of €29,950,000.
According to BOATPro, the Dutch yard has five superyacht projects on order or under construction, the largest of which measures 75.2 metres.
