Autonomous 58 Metre Superyacht Concept in Development at DLBA

7 April 2020 • Written by Miranda Blazeby

Naval architect studio DLBA is developing a 58 metre autonomous, AI superyacht concept named Tempo.

DLBA will use the concept to develop the use of AI through all vessel systems and use it as an example of a successful autonomous yacht.

The studio said it had specifically pinpointed three main areas where autonomous technology could be developed on board – navigational, equipment health monitoring and mechanical and electrical systems.

The resulting system could be capable of integrating cybersecurity and monitoring auxiliary systems and equipment on board.

AI- ready mechanical and electrical systems would ensure the vessel is operating at peak performance, the studio said. Tasks such as starting or stopping pumps and addressing system faults would be carried out automatically.

It described the project as “a study in all vessel systems where artificial intelligence can be used to enhance an owner’s experience on board.”

The company pointed to its prior experience with autonomous vessel research and development.

It added that its “vision is to deliver best-in-class autonomous vessels as the industry leading vessel design and autonomy integrator.”
