Polish shipyard Sunreef Yachts has been commissioned to build a 24 metre sailing catamaran powered only by hydrogen and solar power.

Sunreef Yachts founder and president Francis Lapp took to the stage at the Monaco Yacht Show to announce the new project along with the build of the first Sunreef 43M Eco.

The hydrogen-powered catamaran is billed as a ground-breaking project designed to achieve "unrivalled autonomy for a new level of eco-conscious cruising," the shipyard said. The hydrogen power harnessed will be used to power both the hotel load and the engines.

The yacht will also feature Sunreef's patented solar power system with solar cells integrated into the composite bodywork.

The Monaco Yacht Show marked a significant occasion for Sunreef Yachts as the builder celebrated its 20th anniversary with the announcement of two new commissions and showcased the Sunreef 80 Eco for the first time.
