Registrations are now officially open for the third edition of the annual World Boating Day (WBD) - a global initiative formed to bring together the boating community, maritime enthusiasts and newcomers to explore life on the water.
Taking place on 23 May, the initiative returns in 2026 following two "record-breaking" years, according to The Superyacht Life Foundation, which launched the non-profit campaign in 2024.
WBD was formed to foster a greater understanding of the global leisure boating industry, offering people a behind-the-scenes look at the sector through a multitude of local open days around the world. Participating companies are able to showcase the breadth of career paths and the depth of talent within the industry, in a move to shape the future by attracting the next generation of talent.
This year's edition is set to be "bigger, bolder and more inclusive than ever", with a new expanded reach. For the first time, sailing schools and maritime museums will be welcomed to take part in the initiative to give more people access to boating experiences, education and maritime heritage. This new addition intends to transform WBD into a "truly inclusive and educational celebration".
“As we open registrations for WBD 2026, the enthusiasm from the global boating community is palpable,” said executive director of The Superyacht Life Foundation, Dilan Sarac. “This year, we’re inviting even more people to discover boating, maritime culture and the incredible opportunities connected to life on the water. With sailing schools and maritime museums joining the initiative, WBD continues to evolve into an unforgettable global moment for the industry and the public alike.”
Early registrations are already being received from around the world, including companies such as Maritime UK, Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show (SCIBS), Mengi Yay, Capsea Yachting and Septemar.
“Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show continues to strengthen its position as a global boating event and our alignment with WBD reinforces that international focus,” added Corey Rattray-Wood, head of events at Mulpha Events Pty Ltd (SCIBS).
“WBD is one of the most valuable platforms through which our industry connects with the world," said Hüseyin Mengi, chairman of the board at Mengi Yay. "From the very first moment we heard about the initiative, we knew we wanted to be part of it."
WBD 2026 will be celebrated on 23 May, though events will be taking place throughout the week of 18 to 24 May.
The first wave of registrations closes on 31 March 2026.
