Turbulence Design has presented a 75-metre yacht concept that borrows inspiration from the traditional architecture and landscape of Chinese gardens.
The avant-garde exterior of Lang-Ching is penned by designer Chong Wu. The yacht's lines are inspired by a “garden stone carving,” explained Wu, with transparent design features and uniquely angled windows to flood the interior with natural light. The renderings of the interior showcase contemporary aesthetics combined with Chinese accents.
Other Chinese garden elements, such as a teahouse, potted plants, a folding screen, and pavilion, have been integrated into the design resulting in an “exotic space” for guests to enjoy. The Chinese name depicted in symbols derives from the calligraphy work of Lantingji Xu, which refers to an “ideal cosy state of clear weather and smooth wind," explained Wu.
Chinese traditions are amplified throughout the living spaces and configuration, with plans for the standard saloon layout to be replaced by a tearoom. Aligning with the natural design elements is the spiral staircase, replicating a tree structure that connects the helipad to the decks.
Accommodation is expected for up to 12 guests, with an owners suite, two VIP suites and another four guest staterooms. The owner’s suite plays host to a private office. Aside from guest areas, there will also be space for up to 20 crew in 10 cabins on the lower deck.
