This year's successful edition of the Explorer Yachts Summit was held in Monaco on November, 10 and covered all areas within the explorer yacht sector. This 2022 edition was held in association with Damen Yachting BV and in collaboration with Exploreryachts.com. Here are just some of the highlights:
The venue
Once again, the Yacht Club de Monaco was the venue for this year's Explorer Yachts Summit, held in association with Damen Yachting BV and event partners CdM, EYOS, Triton Submarines and ICON Yachts.
The speakers
BOAT’s editor-in-chief Stewart Campbell opened the day revealing the latest data about the explorer yacht sector
Former owner of DSSV Pressure Drop Victor Vescovo opened the door with a key note speech about why he believes owners should get more involved with marine research
BOAT’s Georgia Boscawen hosted a panel on whether adventure charters are the next big thing
Vasco Buonpensiere, Jim Dixon, Rob McCallum and Enrique Tintore shared their thoughts on what explorer vessels of the future might look like
Rob Luijendijk, Kirsten Schwalgien, Robert Smith and Craig Barnett discussed the role of shadow boats with BOAT’s Caroline White
BOAT’s Sophia Wilson spoke to Captain Stephen Edwards about the philanthropic programme he overseeing on board 60 metre Seahawk
Giorgio Gallo and Alex Moukas tackled the topic of low impact exploration
The destination panel focused on the island destinations of Papua New Guinea, Svalbard and Indonesia
Stephan Vitus, Timur Bozca and Marie Soliman shared their insights on what makes a successful superyacht conversion
To conclude the day Irvine Laidlaw spoke to Stewart Campbell about his lifetime of adventures
Attendees were given a packed programme covering all areas within the explorer yacht sector. Topics such as the demand and evolution of the explorer market, how to achieve low-impact travel, and the rise of support vessels were discussed at length. In terms of travel, the world's various islands and extreme destinations were put into the spotlight with many inspiring stories from the experts who have been there. The audience also heard from owners and captains about their first hand experiences.
