A $500,000 price drop has been announced on Burger Boat's classic 33-metre motor yacht Chanticleer, listed for sale with Dominic Meredith Hardy of Classic Charters.
Chanticleer was originally delivered in 1973 as Buckpasser. Commissioned by American stockbroker, philanthropist and court tennis champion, Ogden Phipps, she was the largest yacht ever built by the American yard and the first in their fleet to feature a helipad. Jack Hargrave penned the yacht's design and naval architecture.
The raised pilothouse entered a new era in 1986 when she was acquired by Frances Langford, the legendary singer, actress and philanthropist. Also a passionate yachtswoman, Langford added a cockpit to satisfy her love of fishing and enjoyed many years on board until her passing in 2005.
Since then, Chanticleer has received meticulous preventative maintenance, upgrades and "unwavering attention to detail" over the past 20 years.
In 2006, she underwent a multimillion-dollar two-year rebuild, and her most recent owner, who purchased her in 2023, has carried out numerous substantial refit works to keep her in "immaculate" condition.
Accommodation on board is for eight guests in four cabins, in addition to three additional quarters for crew. A spacious master, an en suite VIP, a double and a twin comprise the layout.
Chanticleer is adorned in a coastal-inspired decor of white-painted woods and light-coloured furniture offset by dark mahogany. Paola D. Smith penned her interiors, which are accented with nautical hints of blue throughout.
There is no shortage of living spaces on board, with the 33-metre offering numerous places to relax or entertain. The main saloon features three sofas for lounging, while a more formal dining area lies nearby in the protected aft deck. A galley with a relaxed dining space lies forward of the main deck, and up top, guests can enjoy another casual dining space (this time of the al fresco variety) and numerous sofa seats.
The classic yacht for sale is powered by twin 435hp Caterpillar engines, offering a cruising speed of 10 knots and tops out at 12. According to BOATPro, she has a gross tonnage of 150GT, a 6.6-metre beam and a 1.9-metre draught.
Chanticleer is now asking $990,000. She is currently lying in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
