Italian yard Columbus Yachts, a brand of Palumbo Superyachts, has launched the first unit in its Crossover 42 series. Christened Big Naan, the ceremony took place at the yard's Savona site in the presence of her owners, their guests and the local authorities.
The 42-metre yacht was sold to her American owner in 2023, with Zarpo Yachts introducing the client and Trevor van Wyk acting as the owner's representative. Italian studio Hydro Tec is responsible for the Crossover 42's "modern and muscular" exterior, featuring a concentration of volume in the bow area (as is typical of explorers) and flat, tapered stern sections.
Accommodation is for 12 guests, including a full-beam master cabin with a central bed, wardrobe, office desk and bathroom with double sink. There is further space for nine crew. While full details are yet to be disclosed, Milanese studio Hot Lab has styled her interiors, with notable projects including Bilgin's Eternal Spark and Mondomarine's Provocateur (ex. Ipanema).
The explorer's "extremely flexible dimensions" are seen best in the cockpit, able to accommodate a large tender with a built-in stern crane as well as a 10-square-metre swimming pool, arranged with sunpads and sofa seating. The sundeck is equipped with a bar and a table, able to be converted into a sunlounger if necessary.
Powered by twin CAT C32 engines, the Crossover 42 can reach a maximum speed of over 14 knots, a cruising speed of 12 knots and a range of over 5,500 nautical miles when pared back to 10 knots.
According to BOATPro, Columbus Yachts has four superyacht projects on order or under construction. The Italian yard recently began construction on Big Naan's bigger sibling, the Crossover 47.
