Vancouver-based studio ER Yacht Design has revealed a new 40-metre explorer yacht concept, known as ER 40, that combines long-range cruising capability, contemporary comfort and an onboard style that refrains from being "overly fashionable".
According to studio president Ivan Erdevicki, unlike the usual explorer yacht approach, ER 40 sidelines the "heavy commercial" aesthetic most often associated with expedition yachts and instead adopts a cleaner, more sculptural profile; her exterior lines remain slender whilst still carrying the strength and practicality expected from an expedition build.
Core to the concept is a modern, lifestyle-driven approach that does not conform to trends, instead aiming to "remain attractive for many years". This is showcased via the long horizontal glazing across her profile, paired with a powerful, distinctive bow, carefully balanced volumes and sturdy superstructure.
ER 40 has been designed for owners who desire the freedom of long-distance cruising without compromising on elegance or visual appeal. The superyacht allows for both explorer yacht distances and locations as well as the capability for Mediterranean cruising and island hopping, due to her overall silhouette.
The deck arrangement is suited to those looking to utilise the space to the maximum, according to Erdevicki. A generous aft deck creates an effortless connection with the surrounding sea, allowing for waterside dining, lounging and entertaining. Forward, her deck areas add another layer of flexibility through her several al fresco spaces split across the layout for more intimate socialising and a relaxed lifestyle.
In a similar manner to her exterior, interior renderings reveal a warm, contemporary and calm environment, featuring large windows and natural wood finishes, coupled with soft neutral fabrics, stone surfaces and darker gloss accents. The studio explained that the interiors were curated not to feel over-designed, but "inviting, refined and easy to live with" instead.
Accommodation onboard offers "comfort, views and daily usability" thanks to well-proportioned guest cabins and an elevated private owner's suite.
In terms of technicalities for build scope, ER 40 can be further developed around a selected propulsion package, hull form requirements and classification society rules, among many other factors. "For shipyards, the project presents a strong and buildable 40 metre concept with clear exterior recognition, flexible layout potential and a design language that can appeal to clients looking for something fresh, personal and technically realistic," the studio concluded.
The studio presented another 40-metre explorer concept, known as MedEx, earlier this year.
