Three yachts have sunk and another has been badly damaged following a fire in Spit Marina, near Sydney, Australia. The blaze broke out at approximately 3.30am (AEST) today (9 January), with BOATPro registering that five superyachts were moored in close proximity to the incident.

The yachts involved in the fire are currently unknown, but footage from the scene suggests that a Princess 85 and a Sunseeker build were among those damaged.

Emergency services were called to the superyacht marina, located in the suburb of Mosman, in the early hours of Friday morning after reports of a fire, according to statement from Fire and Rescue New South Wales (FRNSW). On arrival, they found a yacht “well alight”.

Four people were evacuated from the vessel, with one treated for smoke inhalation by NSW Ambulance paramedics. The individual was taken to hospital and remains in a stable condition.

More than 40 firefighters were called to the scene alongside a Port Authority of New South Wales firefighting vessel, Girawaa. The blaze took approximately 2.5 hours to extinguish.

FRNSW, in liaison with the Environment Protection Authority, worked to contain debris and materials from the fire, including oil and fuel.

According to BOATPro, the 30.5-metre Azzura flagship Parriwi, the 28.3-metre Mangusta 92 yacht Glory Days, the 28.2-metre Sunseeker Twenty Eight, the 44.6m Proteksan Texas and the 28-metre Hargrave Custom Yachts Sassy were berthed at the marina when the fire broke out but appear to be unaffected.

New South Wales Police said initial inquiries had been conducted and the fire was not being treated as suspicious, though an investigation into the cause of the blaze is underway.

BOAT International will update the story as it develops.
