Everything you need to know about the 2022 Explorer Yachts Summit

What is it?

The Explorer Yachts Summit, in association with Damen Yachting and in collaboration with ExplorerYachts.com, is the only international summit dedicated solely to the expanding explorer yachting sector and is taking place on November 10, at the Yacht Club de Monaco. The conference will run from 9am and conclude with networking drinks from 5-6pm. Session timings will be revealed shortly, but you can find an overview of our exciting line-up below. 


What is happening at the Explorer Yacht Summit 2022?

Attendees can expect a packed programme covering all areas within the explorer yacht sector. Topics include:

The evolution of the explorer market: There is a lot of hype around the explorer yacht market but what is the reality? Find out how big explorer yachting is, what parts of the sector are growing fastest, and  who’s buying explorer yachts.

Keynote: Victor Vescovo, extreme explorer: The owner of DSSV Pressure Drop, Victor Vescovo has dived deeper than any other human being and visited the deepest points of the Earth’s five oceans. He shares his insights on what fuels his passion for adventure, how he aims to educate through his expeditions and what his sights are now set on.

Adventure charters: the next big thing?: With explorer vessels including Octopus, Arctic P and Bold now part of the charter fleet, clients seeking global adventures are spoilt for choice. Leading  charter experts discuss what is driving this surge in interest? What clients are looking to gain from these experiences and the challenges behind creating a successful adventure charter.
Panellists including: Raphael Sauleau, CEO of Fraser; Frederica Findlater, Deputy Head of Charter at Burgess; Jacqui Lockhart, Europe Head of Charter Marketing, Camper & Nicholsons.

The secrets of a successful conversion: The fast track to a world-roaming expedition yacht or a boatload of limitations? Discover what you need to know  before embarking on an explorer yacht conversion, from experts involved in some of the biggest projects of recent years. Panellists including: Timur Bozca, Chief Executive Officer, Bozca Design; Marie Soliman, Co-founder, Bergman Interiors; Stephan Vitus, Head of Project Development, ICON Yachts.

Explorer 2050: anticipating customer demand: With an explosion of “go anywhere” vessels on the market explorer yacht design is evolving at pace. Top designers share their thoughts on what   adventure vessels of the future might look like and what features and characteristics owners will demand.
Panellists including: Jim Dixon, Director of Yachts & Aviation, Winch Design; Vasco Buonpensiere, Co-owner, CDM; Enrique Tintore, SeaXplorer Design Manager, Damen Yachting and Rob McCallum, founder, EYOS. 

It takes two: what makes a successful shadow boat?: One boat good, two boats even better. Support vessels are increasingly allowing owners to achieve their exploration dreams – from providing emergency disaster relief to allowing underwater exploration to previously untouched wrecks. Specialists delve into this niche but growing market looking at what makes a successful expedition partner.

Seahawk: adventure for a cause: Winner of the Special Award in the Voyager category at this year’s World Superyacht Awards the owners of the 60 metre Perini Navi have set up an ambitious programme, which will see them cruise the world with the ambition of assisting marine science and community life. Captain Stephen Edwards talks to Sophia Wilson about his insights from their adventures so far and how to successfully combine adventure and philanthropy.

Protecting the pristine: low impact exploration: With a growing emphasis on cruising without a trace we delve into the how regulation changes are ensuring that yacht design and use are becoming increasingly sustainable. A representative from RINA talks with industry experts about the practicalities of exploring some of the world’s most fragile environments.

Destination focus: the allure of island adventure: Superyacht expeditions to the polar regions might grab the headlines but the world’s island nations can offer equal opportunities for adventure. Three experts share their first had experience and insight on three destinations ­– Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, and Svalbard – and explain why they should  be on every superyacht owner’s wish list.

An audience with Irvine Laidlaw, superyacht owner: A passionate yachtsman and owner for more than half a decade Lord Irvine Laidlaw has no shortage of exploration experience. He talks to Stewart Campbell about his adventures under sail, including his most recent visit to Papua New Guinea, onboard Lady Christine.
