by Malcolm Maclean
The 51.2 metre superyacht Helios 2, listed for sale by Stuart Larsen at Fraser in Fort Lauderdale, has been sold with Bruce Brakenhoff Jr at Perini Navi USA introducing the buyer.
Built in aluminium by US yard Palmer Johnson to a design by Sparkman & Stephens, she was delivered in 2002 and has had many upgrades since, the most recent being in 2015, when she received a new interior by Patrick Knowles. Accommodation is for up to 12 guests in five cabins including a full beam master suite on the main deck, while below are two queen doubles forward and two twins convertible to doubles aft, all with en suite shower facilities.
The dining room, which is open to the main saloon, seats 12 guests comfortably around a rectangular table and has extensive china, crystal and silver storage cabinets on both sides. The main saloon has L-shaped seating to port and additional seating to starboard along with a games table and access out to the aft deck.
The extensive aft deck has sliding windows on both sides and curtains aft, offering the versatility to enjoy air conditioned comfort or, with the air conditioning switched off and the windows open, the ability to enjoy cool ocean breezes. This area offers seating on a two seater couch or around a teak table for 12 guests and comes with a full bar, fridge and ice maker on the starboard side.
Helios 2 also has a new reverse transom with a starboard staircase down to the spacious swim platform, offering a perfect area for launching water toys. The large sun deck, covered in part by a fixed hard top for shade, has a spa pool forward surrounded by sun beds. Aft there is a granite topped bar, built in U-shaped seating, a barbecue and a flip-down plasma television screen. Twin 1,000hp Caterpillar diesel engines give her an impressive range of 4,000 nautical miles.
Helios 2 was asking $14.5 million.
