Founder of Dykstra Naval Architects Gerard Dijkstra has completed the speaking line-up of the upcoming inaugural Superyacht Gathering in Auckland.

Taking place from March 27 – 29, 2019, the three-day event features a bumper programme of social events and a day-long symposium, which will include sessions on design, the America’s Cup and ownership insight.

Focusing on the wind assisted ship propulsion seen in Maltese Falcon and Black Pearl, Dijkstra will discuss the benefits and challenges of such technology.

The first Superyacht Gathering will take place from March 27-29 in Auckland

Yacht designer Sam Sorgiovanni will also speak at the event, specifically on the recently delivered 84 metre trimaran White Rabbit, which was designed by Sorgiovanni Designs. The advances in zero emission design will also be a key discussion topic. Other confirmed speakers include the owners of Tawera, Tracy and Mike Mahoney, Volvo Ocean racer Bianca Cook and the founder of Palma’s Superyacht Cup Patrick Whetter.

A social programme will accompany the event, including a day on Waiheke island a and tour to some of Auckland’s best superyacht destinations.

Co-founder and communications director Ellie Brade said the Superyacht Gathering takes “a different approach to traditional industry events". "Our goal is to open up conversations, share experiences and possible change the way owners experience their superyacht, while also showcasing New Zealand and the wider South Pacific,” she said.

“We have brought together an amazing line-up of storytellers, both from New Zealand and around the world, and have built an event that truly reflects our values."

Boat International is the media partner of the Superyacht Gathering, which is being sponsored by Royal Huisman and Burgess.
