Gulf Craft Issues Coronavirus Company Update

UAE shipyard Gulf Craft has given a company update as it adapts to the “new normal” of a post coronavirus world.

The shipyard is currently working at 30% capacity with a total of 1,300 staff working in three different facilities in both the UAE and the Maldives.

It is currently focused on completing a number of underway customer projects, including the Majesty 100, Nomad 95S and Oryx 379. It is also working on finishing projects such as the Majesty 120, Majesty 140 and Majesty 175, all of which are preparing for launch.

Gulf Craft continues with a number of precautionary health and safety measures that have been in place at the yard since early March. This includes a flexible working plan of morning and afternoon shifts for some groups of staff to ensure they do not cross over. Elsewhere, precautions such as physical distancing, temperature checks and the adoption of PPE all remain in place.

Gulf Craft said it had adopted a “complete reshuffle” in work methods and operational strategy as it prepares for future markets and works to ensure brand sustainability.

This has seen the merging of some roles and departments alongside a workforce reduction to reduce costs.

Chairman Mohammed Hussein Alshaali explained: “Today, more than ever, we value the trust our clients continue to place in us. We also want to insure them that, although this pandemic has a lot of implications, it made us realise the necessity of restructuring our business module on both operational and commercial levels.”

He added that the yard is focused on building “a new Gulf Craft” with a “forward-thinking mentality”.

“We are optimistic about the future and we look forward to overcoming these challenging times. We have been through many crises in our four decades of operation and given our experience, we will be ready for the new era.”
