Dutch yard Lynx Yachts has announced that the steel has been cut for the first unit from its 33.8-metre YXT 34, the largest vessel in the YXT series to date.
The news comes following the announcement of the yacht's contract signing in October last year, commissioned by a “young [and] highly athletic individual” intending to use the YXT 34 for global exploration. As such, the 33.8-metre is capable of housing a full-size submarine, alongside an "oversized" tender, a four-by-four expedition vehicle and a "fleet" of jet skis.
The new build has been developed as a standalone vessel, marking a departure from the traditional "shadow" role of the Lynx builds. The YXT 34 stands as an evolution of the successful YXT 27 model, though, according to the yard, the first unit represents a "significant leap in scale and sophistication".
Dutch studio Bernd Weel is leading design on the new model, with Diana Yacht Design overseeing engineering and Julian Moore behind the interiors - the latter of which has been described as offering an atmosphere defined by "soothing luxury", developed in close collaboration with the owner.
Other key specs include an 8.8-metre beam, accommodation for six guests in three cabins, further quarters for four crew and a maximum speed of 17 knots.
Construction will be undertaken at the yard's facilities in Nijkerk, the Netherlands, and delivery is slated for Q1 of 2028.
"This contract symbolises our recognition as a premier builder of shadow vessels for the yachting industry," said the founder of Lynx Yachts, Slim Bouricha. "We were selected among competing shipyards for our quality and our ability to provide the owner with a design and specification that match exactly his requirements. The shipyard is going strong and this build reflects our current momentum."
The yacht joins Lynx Yachts' 32.5-metre full-custom new build, which was sold in September and is also currently under construction.
