In-build: Baltic 85 Custom sailing yacht takes shape
by Chris Jefferies
The 26 metre Baltic 85 Custom sailing yacht is taking shape at the Finnish yard’s Jakobstad headquarters, as the first in-build photo below shows.
On schedule for a 2018 delivery, this sloop-rigged composite yacht is being built from an E-Glass outer skin, Divinycell foam core and pre-preg carbon inner skin.
Dixon Yacht Design is responsible for both the naval architecture and the exterior lines, while Mark Whiteley Design will take care of the yacht's interior décor and Nigel Ingram of MCM is providing project management services.
The owner has opted for a telescopic lifting keel that can reduce the draft from 4.3 metres to 2.95 metres when required. Accommodation is for up to four guests split between an owner’s cabin and a guest cabin, while the crew quarters will allow for a staff of two people.
Full details of the engine installation are yet to be revealed, but Baltic Yachts confirmed that the Baltic 85 Custom will be fitted with a conventional shaft-drive auxiliary propulsion system.
Other sailing superyacht projects currently under development at the Finnish yard include the 42.38 metre Baltic 142 Custom and the 34.14 metre Baltic 112 Custom, both of which are due to hit the water next year.
