To give you a better idea, BOAT rounds up the 50 most expensive yachts currently listed for sale, starting with the 114.2-metre Luna...

Delivered in 2015 by German shipyard Lürssen, Golden Odyssey is currently the largest motor yacht (by length) on the brokerage market. Despite being launched some 10 years ago, the 7,690GT vessel has remained notably secretive, even while on the brokerage market. She was designed by Martin Francis, with the late Alberto Pinto overseeing her interiors, said to host 30 guests in 15 cabins in addition to a crew of 70.

Attessa IV

Asking €109,000,000 with Merle Wood & Associates

Builder: WYG
Length: 101.2m
Designer: Felix Buytendijk, Diana Yacht Design

Attessa IV was originally built in Japan in 1999 as the 91-metre yacht Evergreen. In 2007, her four-year rebuild began under the stewardship of Merle Wood & Associates and Washington Yachting Group (WYG) in Vancouver, Canada. The superyacht was gutted from the main deck up and emerged with a host of upgraded features including a new bow, stern, foredeck tender garage, spa, superstructure shape and an all-new helipad. She even got a completely new interior layout, including the crew areas. This overhaul won Attessa IV the "Best Rebuilt Yacht" Neptune at the World Superyacht Awards in 2011. Christina O

Asking €90,000,000 with MORLEY

Builder: Canadian Vickers
Length: 99.2m
Designers: Costas Carabelas, Prof. Cäsar Pinnau, Howaldtswerke, Azure Yacht Design & Naval Architecture,  Apostolos Molindris

Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, Grace Kelly, Frank Sinatra, Winston Churchill and John F. Kennedy are some of the names that have walked on Christina O's decks or sat at her bar – the latter built from the wood of a sunken Spanish galleon ship. She was originally delivered as a WWII anti-submarine vessel and was later converted into a private yacht by Aristotle Onassis, the second husband of Jackie Kennedy. Two of her most talked-about features are a mosaic-tiled, saltwater swimming pool that converts to a dance floor and the whale foreskin-upholstered bar stools which surround Christina O's rope-covered bar, colloquially termed Ari's Bar.

Alfa Nero

Asking €88,500,000 with Northrop & Johnson

Builder: Oceanco
Length: 81.3m
Designers: Nuvolari Lenard, Azure Yacht Design and Naval Architecture, Alberto Pinto

The word"'icon" is too frequently thrown around the yachting industry. However, exceptions can be made when it comes to Alfa Nero. She is instantly recognisable on the water, not least for her distinctive black and white Nuvolari Lenard profile, with its low stern and minimal overhang, but also for her first-of-a-kind infinity pool which proudly demands attention on the aft deck. Features like these are what made her stand out at her delivery in 2007 and still today, 18 years on, with her broker highlighting that "many of her original innovations are now standard features on today’s large yachts". Her dramatic profile is matched with an Alberto Pinto interior design, curated with pop-art and Art Deco influences comprising vibrant colour schemes, bold striped flooring and contemporary art by Lichtenstein and Murakami.

Planet Nine

Asking €79,500,000 with Fraser
Credit: Thierry Ameller

Builder: Admiral - The Italian Sea Group
Length: 73.2m
Designer: Tim Heywood, Admiral Engineering, Mlinaric, Henry & Zervudachi

Planet Nine’s meticulous owner ensured that she was built to cruise the waters of Greenland, Antarctica and everywhere in between with ease. This is realised in the specially-designed ice-classed hull, constructed with thick hull plates, strong frames and bulkheads, and careful protection for her seawater intakes, to protect from cold temperatures and deal with sea ice up to 15 centimetres thick. Guests can enjoy 180-degree-views from the forward observation lounge, take a dip in the sundeck Jacuzzi, or relax in the spacious cinema. The dedicated owners' deck also comes complete with its own private lounge, terrace and study. The superyacht made an appearance in Christopher Nolan's mind-bending blockbuster Tenet.
