Lürssen superyacht Project Shu spotted on sea trials

The mysterious Lürssen superyacht, currently referred to as Project Shu, has begun her sea trials off the coast of Germany.

Lürssen has remained silent on the new yacht's identity, with no details released at all, but the mystery yacht's length of at least 130 metres was deduced last year when she was pictured alongside the 123 metre Project Jupiter, which has since been delivered under the name Al Lusail.

As the image above shows, this five-deck superyacht is structurally complete, meaning that a 2018 delivery date could be possible, depending on the interior fit-out schedule. Upon handover, this monumental project is expected to become one of the top 20 largest superyachts in the world.

Key features include a pair of superyacht helipads, one on the bow and a second situated aft of the imposing mast. Meanwhile, cutaway bulwarks on the bridge deck and upper deck will allow plenty of natural light to flood in through the floor-to-ceiling windows.

Lürssen’s impressive order book contains many upcoming superyachts measuring over 100 metres, but this new yacht doesn’t match the description of any of the projects we are currently aware of.

It is understood that Lürssen is currently working on four new build projects in the 130 metre plus bracket, including an as yet unnamed 146 metre motor yacht and the 135 metre Project Thunder — an Espen Øino design due for delivery in spring 2018.

Restrictive confidentiality agreements mean that Lürssen will not comment on any of these in-build projects.
