Monaco Yacht Show: 11 must-see sailing yachts

14 September 2022• Written by Holly Overton

For true sailors who want to sail the seven seas in the traditional way, we take a look at the top supersized sailing yachts that will be making an appearance at the 2022 edition of the Monaco Yacht Show later this month.

Perseverance 1

Length: 39.3m
Builder: Baltic Yachts

Baltic's neo-classic sloop Perseverance 1 balances traditional good looks with a wealth of seriously impressive onboard tech. She is fitted with an efficient hybrid propulsion system and technology that takes her batteries to full charge in just 4.5 hours and permits eight to nine hours of silent running at anchor. The yacht was also designed to sail easily with minimal crew and the owner also wanted to be able to easily carry out maintenance on all onboard systems himself. She has continued to pick up silverware since her launch, including a coveted Neptune for Sailing Yacht of the Year at the World Superyacht Awards.

Perseverance I is currently not for sale.

Twizzle

Length: 57.5m
Builder: Royal Huisman

Twizzle was the first flybridge sailing yacht to be built by Royal Huisman and houses one of the most advanced sailing rigs ever created. She carries 1,780 square metres of sail (both main and mizzen sails can be hoisted simultaneously in under two minutes), while below the waterline, a swing daggerboard increases the 3.8 metre draft to 11 metres and can be lowered even when sailing at speed. Meanwhile, her raised pilothouse design allows for two saloons: one that serves as the main saloon and another that functions as an observation lounge or formal dining space forward.

Twizzle is asking €39,900,000 with Edmiston.

Pink Gin VI

Length: 59.3m
Builder: Baltic Yachts

Pink Gin VI is the world's largest sloop-rigged sailing yacht with a single mast that stands 67 metres tall. It is perhaps no surprise that she also flies a massive 1,322 square metres of sail upwind complemented by a Rondal furling boom and carbon fibre rigging. Downwind, she carries a bright pink 1,838 square metre asymmetrical spinnaker that weighs nearly a quarter of a tonne.

Pink Gin VI is asking €29,500,000 with Edmiston.

My Song

Length: 24m
Builder: Nautor Swan

My Song is the first hull in Nautor Swan's new ClubSwan 80 class of one-design race boats. She was delivered to her owner, Pier Luigi Loro Piana, earlier this year and has already made her regatta debut at the Rolex Maxi Yacht Cup. To make her a light boat with a shallow draft, My Song features a 4.75-metre canting keel with her own sailing team contributing to the technicalities of her side-force appendages. She is also fitted with a retractable bowsprit, twin rudders and is built to the same standards as the America's Cup boats and IMOCA 60s. Nautor Swan, Nauta Design and Persico Marine collaborated on the project.

My Song is currently not for sale.

Ellen

Length: 40.42m
Builder: Perini Navi

Perini Navi sailing yacht Ellen might be ten years old but a two-year refit (totalling four million euros) allowed her to hit the reset button with new teak, sails, rigging and navigation systems, as well as an overhaul of her engines, generators and winches. This two-masted sailing yacht flies 812 square metres of sail and is equipped with power-assisted sail control, twin-screw propulsion, and a retractable daggerboard.

Ellen is asking €9,300,000 with G-Yachts.

Borkumriff IV

Length: 50.57m
Builder: Royal Huisman

Borkumriff IV is a two-masted schooner built by Royal Huisman and delivered in 2002. Her design pays tribute to sailing yachts of the bygone era with her twin deckhouses and mahogany-panelled interior. Her sail plan is easily managed by a shorthanded crew but she can also pick up her skirts and fly at speeds into the high teens with a full crew in a regatta. She is still under her original ownership and has been well cared for.

Borkumriff IV is asking €14,900,000 with Camper & Nicholsons.

Escapade

Length: 37.5m
Builder: Fitzroy Yachts

Escapade was built in New Zealand but is the result of an all-British design team with an exterior profile by Dubois Naval Architects and interiors by Design Unlimited. Highlights include a teak-lined Jacuzzi on the foredeck, flexible accommodation for 10 guests with convertible cabins, and a line-free cockpit.

Escapade is asking €13,750,000 with Burgess.

Sunreef Eco 80

Length: 24m
Builder: Sunreef Yachts

The first hull in the Sunreef 80 Eco catamaran series made a splash earlier this year. The model was first revealed in 2021 as part of the Polish builder’s new Eco Line that uses ultra-lightweight composite-integrated solar panels built into the hull sides, mast, superstructure and bimini roof to power the hotel load. Meanwhile, a smart hydro generation system will allow the Sunreef 80 Eco to recover up to 15kWh of energy from the propeller rotation alone.

Sørvind

Length: 34.59m
Builder: Southern Wind

Sørvind is the fifth unit in the successful SW105 mini-series that pairs high-performance with blue water cruising capabilities. Her design is the work of Nauta Design and the owners of Sørvind were quick to test her mettle with a 7,000-nautical-mile maiden voyage from South Africa to the Mediterranean. Her lightweight composition has been achieved by using carbon for the decks and bulkheads, synthetic teak and aluminium stanchions, pulpits and cleats, making her particularly swift under sail.

Sørvind is currently not for sale.

Silencio

Length: 49.8m
Builder: Perini Navi

Silencio was delivered in 2001 as the third hull in Perini Navi's 50 metre series of flybridge sailing yachts. She has proved her worth on the regatta circuit through the years, picking up silverware at the 2018 Perini Navi Cup, the 2015 Millennium Cup and the 2019 Loro Piana Regatta. Silencio has been refitted extensively throughout her life in 2012 and again in 2021 when she completed her 20-year ABS survey and received a new suite of sails.

Silencio is asking €14,500,000 with Edmiston & Company.

Blush

Length: 45.26m
Builder: Perini Navi

Blush, famously owned by Formula 1's Eddie Jordan, was built by Perini Navi in 2017 and joins the market following an extensive €1.8 million refit. She boasts expansive deck spaces and a large flybridge that offers al fresco dining, aft sun pads and a sheltered cockpit, paired with a striking Merlot-red exterior.

Blush is asking €12,495,000 with Camper & Nicholsons.
