Sunseeker reveals new superyacht model Project 8X

Sunseeker has used the occasion of the Boot Dusseldorf boat show to announce a new superyacht concept called Project 8X.

While the specific length of the yacht has not yet been disclosed, the British yard said it would measure between 24 and 30 metres. The 8X will “showcase the fresh design direction of Sunseeker’s next generation of larger models," the yard said.

Embodying the “feel of a true superyacht,” Project 8X will be “fundamentally different from the current Sunseeker range,” the yard said.

The news comes after the Poole based yard revealed it had teamed up with Icon Yachts on its first metal built superyacht, the Sunseeker 161, which will launch in spring 2021.

Launching in 2020, Project 8X will feature “striking lines” and an open plan interior.

A standout feature is its beach club which, the yard claims, will be “four times” the size of a traditional platform design to become a “highly specified entertainment area of its own.”

Key features of the beach club include a built-in drawer barbecue, “self-levelling step passerelle” and optional hydraulic bathing platform.

It will also provide “extensive” storage for a tender and toys, including a Williams 460 SportJet, jet ski and Sea Bob. These will be deployed and retrieved with an integrated tender crane.

The foredeck meanwhile will incorporate a 140 inch cinema screen, laser projector and surround sound for “evening entertainment under the stars.”

The interior décor will “combine traditional elegancy with contemporary updates” and “ooze sleek simplicity and sophistication,” the yard said.

Accommodation will be for a total of eight guests in an owners’ full beam master, forward VIP and two twin aft cabins that can convert into doubles. The crew quarters meanwhile will accommodate a maximum staff of five and include a kitchenette, crew mess and ensuite.

Different accommodation layouts will be available depending on the use of the yacht.

Sunseeker sales director Sean Robertson said the new model “will dictate this sector for years to come.

“Sunseeker prides itself on producing the world’s finest luxury performance motor yachts and the design and engineering behind Project 8X epitomises our next generation of larger models,” he added.

“Whilst each new model is still quintessentially and unmistakeably a Sunseeker, this exciting new yacht will, without doubt, reinvent the market when it launches next year.”
